The American based non profit organization OCEARCH has tagged great white sharks, including Lydia, which weigh anywhere between 2,000 and 4,000 pounds. The group insists their research is vital to saving these animals. OCEARCH began as the Shark Wranglers TV show nearly 8 years ago using their controversial hooking and removing of the sharks for the water. To date we have not been able to verify any conservation measures that have been taken as a result of the highly criticized tagging process. In the meantime, more and more images of permanently damaged sharks are appearing on the internet.
The tag on the left not only damaged the shark's fin, but also failed to function properly or deliver any conservation worthy data.
